Conversation practice

Malayalam conversation practice: 50 beginner dialogues

Fifty everyday situations, each with a model answer in Malayalam script and romanisation, grouped so you can practise ten a day.

How to use these 50 prompts

Each prompt below has a model answer in Malayalam script and romanisation. Cover the answer, try to say the prompt in Malayalam yourself, then check. Don't worry if your version differs a little: Malayalam often has several natural ways to say the same thing, and the model answer is simply the one I'd teach first.

Work through one group of ten a day. By the end of the week you will have said all fifty out loud at least once.

Make it a real conversation

  1. Pick three prompts from different groups and chain them: greet, ask a question, close politely.
  2. Record yourself, then listen for the long vowels (aa, ee, oo) and double consonants.
  3. Swap one word in each sentence: enikku chaaya venam becomes enikku kaappi venam (coffee).
