Choose your Speak Malayalam path

The book is large on purpose. This page tells you what to study first, what to skip for now, and how to turn the book into a daily speaking habit.

Pick your route

Total beginner

Start with sounds, greetings, pronouns, wants/needs, family words and ten core sentence patterns.

Heritage listener

Skip long alphabet work at first. Focus on speaking tasks, family calls, register and correcting fossilized habits.

Kerala traveler

Study greetings, food, shopping, transport, directions, health, numbers and polite requests.

Spouse or in-law learner

Prioritize family names, food hospitality, respect forms, small talk and repair phrases.

30-day quick path

Week 1: sounds, greetings, pronouns, family, food and daily review.
Week 2: wants, needs, questions, time, numbers and shopping.
Week 3: verbs, directions, health, travel and polite requests.
Week 4: real conversations, roleplays, recording practice and a self-test.

90-day serious path

Use the book three times a week for new lessons, twice a week for audio/shadowing, once a week for a speaking task, and once a week for review. By day 90, you should be able to handle introductions, food, shopping, travel, family calls and basic feelings.

180-day mastery path

After the 90-day route, add grammar reference, graded reading, dialect/register notes, workbook tiers, ACTFL-style speaking tasks and weekly tutor correction.
